100 Years Ago Today

Some of you may not know that the Rhode Island Collection holds the complete run of the Providence Journal from 1829 to the present. The Journal is an important part of the collection as it documented the history of Providence, Rhode Island, and the World as the events happened. Genealogists, local historians, preservationists, students, and many others can all find something of interest within its pages.


The One Hour Digitization Challenge

I recently received a package containing my very first Kickstarter purchase, the ScanBox Plus. The Scanbox is basically a small box with a hole in the top (the "Plus" adds a set of lights powered by a 9-volt battery), designed to be used with a smartphone camera as a portable scanning station. The whole apparatus folds flat and fits inside a paper envelope.
