At this third annual African Studies workshop, we will join The African Alliance of Rhode Island, Bryant University students and professors, as well as scholars and mentors from the African community, for a day of open discussion and celebration.

SCHEDULE

1:30--Roundtable Discussion and Q&A
Human Rights and Exploitation of Resources in Africa with:

Nyekeh Forkpa, former managing editor of The News, a Liberian newspaper.

Souleymane Kabwe, a representative of African refugees in New England.

Dr. Graeme Rodgers, a South African social anthropologists who currently runs the consulting firm, Displacement and Resettlement Analysis.

Clips from the film End of the Rainbow, which documents a mining company's exploits in Guinea, will also be shown.

2:45--Balafon Performance by Balla Kouyate
Balla Kouyaté is considered to be among the greatest balafon players from the Djeli or Griot tradition in Mali, and has recorded more than 45 albums. He will perform and discuss his music.
