Please join us for an afternoon of poetry designed to please both the poetry buff and those who haven't read poetry since their high school or college course work.
To gain full meaning, poetry is best spoken aloud, orated, dramatized, heightened with emotion by the reader. And though we don't all have dramatic voices, even a timid voice adds humanity to what is read. Also, Reading Circle members have found that when poetry becomes a group experience, the discussion and personal reaction that a poem generates adds insight and enjoyment.
The Poetry Reading Circle has been meeting for a number of years on the Eastside, mostly at Brown University and in members homes. Recently we have entered into a collaborative arrangement with the Rochambeau Library. It is an arrangement which not only provides us with a home, but also satisfies the library's mission for life-long learning and our desire to encourage more people to read and enjoy poetry.
