Authors' FairFeaturing 15 writers from 12 Rhode Island cities, many of them well-reviewed and award-winning, the First Annual RI Self-Published Author Fair takes place this Sunday, March 1, 2:00-4:00pm at Providence Public Library, Central Library, 150 Empire Street, Providence, RI 02903. The keynote address by author Christie O'Neil Harrison will begin at 2:00pm in Lippitt Hall on the 1st floor. Authors will set up tabletop displays and book-signing stations. Network, support local authors, purchase books, share stories, get some writing tips, or even learn some tricks of the trade from our guests. Ten percent of sales will be donated to the library's program fund to offset the cost of the fair and to ensure the continuation of this annual event.

Intended to highlight and contextualize the growing trend of self-publishing, this fair will showcase the diversity and range of Rhode Island's local authors who live and work among us. Our writers this year represent a variety of voices and backgrounds from Providence, Portsmouth, Coventry, Tiverton, Pawtucket, Narragansett and beyond. From techno-thrillers, to memoirs, to fantasy novels for teens, a wide range of genres will be included.

Highlighted authors include:

Maureen Collins Baker, whose political biography, Outrageous Hero: The B.T. Collins Story, was well-reviewed by Bob Kerr at The Providence Journal and Mark Shields at The Washington Post. It has currently sold 1,500 copies across 35 states and has 12 five-star reviews on Amazon.com.

Hannah Goodman, whose young adult book My Sister’s Wedding won the International Self-Published Book Award from Writer’s Digest, and who has been featured in The Providence Journal, Newport Daily News, and The Jewish Voice & Herald. Her book My Summer Vacation also enjoys great success and has garnered awards.

Pat Hastings, psychotherapist, whose heartening self-help memoir Simply a Woman of Faith won her the title Inspirational Woman of the Year on Tea with Marie in 2007 and launched a successful career in spiritual counseling and self-empowerment coaching.

William F. Watson Jr., whose “discovered” and well-received tales of Sherlock Holmes and his trusty sidekick in Watson's Sampler: The Lost Casebook of Sherlock Holmes, brings this crime solving duo to Aquidneck Island in their retirement. Favorably reviewed in The Newport Times, the book is also a big hit at The Mysterious Bookshop in NYC and among Holmes mystery collectors and admirers nation-wide.

This is only a small selection of our talented writers. We will also feature the anthologized work of the Rhode Island Writer’s Circle, mystery writer Leith C. MacArthur (Amber-Lee, lauded by ForeWord Magazine) and more!
