What is Flicktion?

Originally introduced on the photo-sharing website Flickr.com, author Andrew Losowsky's popular titleThe Doorbells of Florence was dubbed "flicktion" by the BBC. It was featured on the BBC World Service, The Times of London and the Philadelphia Inquirer, and will be published by Chronicle Books on March 11, 2009.

The book features alluring photographs of doorbell panels in Florence, Italy, alongside inspired stories that imagine the lives of the people who dwell at each address. Charming, whimsical, and elegant, each story is a perfect match for its photo, balancing the antique, old-world appeal of Florence and the contemporary, gritty realities of a modern city. The photos lay bare a rarely observed side of Florence, and the stories capture the spirit of peeking inside the secrets, habits, and desires of a city's inhabitants.

Travelers, lovers of Italy, and imaginative wanderers will delight in this beautiful collection, which features hand-drawn lettering and a silk-screened cover.

Andrew will present his photos in a digital slideshow and reading. Books will be available for purchase and signing at the event, which is free and open to the public.
