Come one, come all...come learn with us!
PPL staff and trustees invite you to come and get reacquainted with the Central Library during this Open House. We're rolling out the red carpet, planning something for all ages.
There will be singing, storytelling and even a cartooning workshop for kids and families, demos of our online resources, exhibits and displays, a movie, Jazz music by the Aristocats, and special presentations. Find out what makes a book rare...Meet and talk to Library trustees, learn about PPL's history, and even how you can help us expand our Rhode Island Image Collection!

Children’s Singer Songwriter, Greg Cooney
1:30 pm -- Young Children’s Room, Ground floor
Greg Cooney performs family/kid oriented music, as well as songs adults can appreciate. He involves the entire audience in his performances. Greg’s songs can also be heard on the Internationally Telly Award winning children’s PBS TV show “Li’l Rhody” on Rhode Island PBS.
Anyone Can Draw Cartoonagrams with Steve Brosnihan, workshop and cartoons
2:00 pm -- Teen/Young Adult Room
Bristol, RI, cartoonist Steve Brosnihan’s book Anyone Can Draw Cartoonagrams is a how-to-draw guide using a method of teaching he developed while working with hospitalized children at Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Anyone Can Draw Cartoonagrams teaches cartooning using letters of the alphabet linked to a key word or phrase. The Cartoonagram characters are both easy to learn and easy to remember. The book is designed for anyone who knows the alphabet.
Storytime with PPL’s Children’s Librarian

Join us for storytime and other fun activities, just for kids!
Music with the Aristocats Jazz Ensemble
1:30 - 3:30 pm -- Lippitt Hall, 1st floor
Lloyd Kaplan and this popular local jazz quartet feature clarinet/tenor saxophone, guitar, bass, percussion, and vocals and play a gentle, but lively selection of classics from the great American songbook: Kern, Berlin, Porter, Gershwin, Rodgers and Warren.

“All Things Rhode Island” with local Rhode Island 101 author Tim Lehnert

What is a "rare" book? What is a "special collection?" Visit with Librarian Richard Ring and get tips and tricks on how to recognize and identify books which have these unique values. A choice selection of books and other items from PPL Special Collections will be used as examples.
