Capturing Place in Creative Nonfiction: A Writing Workshop with Author Daniel Robb
Sunday, October 24, 2010
2:00 PM-4:00 PM
Are you an aspiring writer? Would you appreciate some tips from a professional?
This is one in a series of writing workshops with local authors.
This workshop will focus on descriptive non-fiction writing such as that which is found in memoirs, autobiographies, and biographies, as well as in “realistic” fiction. Particular emphasis will be placed on exploring writing that describes place and setting well, along with the description of other details that give a book or piece of writing the feeling of authenticity. Come prepared to read, discuss, and to write.
Daniel Robb, a carpenter and writer, has been an editor of academic journals; a teacher in Mississippi, New York, and Massachusetts; a political consultant; and the proprietor of a literary services business. He is the author of Sloop: Restoring My Family’s Wooden Sailboat (Simon & Schuster, 2008), Crossing the Water (Simon & Schuster, 2001), and numerous pieces of drama, prose, and journalism. Dan has degrees from Middlebury College and Breadloaf School of English.
All workshops are single sessions and will be held at the Central Library, 150 Empire Street, Providence. Please register by calling or emailing Lisa Miller at 455-8057 or firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve your place. Leave your first and last name and contact information.
