Silken Webs: China Trade Textiles.  Madelyn Shaw will lead us in an exploration of the products, personalities, and activities that characterized the silk trade with China from the Colonial period through the 1840s, and how textiles represent the first global industry.

Ms. Shaw is an independent museum curator, writer, and consultant, whose most recent project, a traveling exhibition and accompanying book titled Homefront & Battlefield: Quilts & Context in the Civil War, was sponsored by the American Textile Museum in Lowell, Massachusetts. She has been affiliated with The Museum at F.I.T., NY, the RISD Museum (where she began her research on China Trade silks), and the New Bedford Whaling Museum.  Her latest book. Clothing Through American History: The British Colonial Era, will be published by ABC-Clio in June 2014.
