Sat, 2015-06-20 12:00 - 21:00

Join the staff and volunteers of Roger Williams National Memorial as we celebrate our 50th anniversary as a unit of the National Park Service.

The fun starts at noon with activities for the whole family. Play 17th Century English games with Plimoth Plantation and Native American games with Tomaquag Museum. Get hands-on experience with the Biomes Marine Biology Center estuary pool where the whole family can explore and encounter those sea creatures that live near the shore here in RI. Earn a Junior Ranger badge by exploring the National Memorial.

Have your words take flight by building and writing on your own kite; test your rock climbing skills with the Rhode Island National Guard.

Experience the art of blacksmithing and making ceramics-two skills that were well known to the first English settlers in Providence-with demonstrations from the Steel Yard.

While taking part in these activities, music reflecting the last 50 years will play in background.

Around 3:30 p.m., we will have a large cake, ice cream and drinks for everyone.

At 6:00 p.m. the Manton Avenue Project will present: This Land Is Our Land, a series of plays written by kids, and acted by adults from Rhode Island's best theater companies.

The first of our Downtown Sundown Concerts, featuring some of the best folk and acoustic music in the area, will begin at 7:00 p.m.
