Join us for Living Literature’s new Holiday Show: The Greatest Gift by Phillip Van Dorn Stern, the short story that inspired the classic film, It’s a Wonderful Life.
The Readers’ Theater performance shares a charming story that began as a self-published, limited edition Christmas card which eventually found its way to film director Frank Capra and became everyone’s holiday must-see. The presentation tells the story behind the story, of which Frank Capra said, “The story I had been looking for all my life! Small town. A man, a good man, ambitious. But so busy helping others, life seemed to pass him by. Despondent. He wished he’d never been born. He gets his wish. Through the eyes of a guardian angel he sees the world as it would have been had he never been born.”
Author Phillip Von Dorn Stern’s daughter relates the series of events that begins with the story’s creation and how it became the classic, “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
Living Literature, a collective of Rhode Island based artists and educators, teaches literature through a unique and imaginative experience of getting participants on their feet and allowing observers to see the story unfold.
Parking is available at the Providence Hilton Parking Garage: $3/3 hours.
