Seizing the Moment through Food and Filmmaking

Documentary Filmmaker Francesco Dragone will showcase some of his latest works as well as some excerpts from recent documentaries and podcasts about FOOD.

Over the last six years Francesco has travelled to more than ten countries around the globe. Every stop represented an encounter with a different culture. To overcome the language barrier or break the ice at the beginning of a conversation, the filmmaker would often end up talking about food. Wonderful meetings took place in busy streets or sidewalk cafes while sipping a coffee or a tea. The "ritual" of taking a moment to stop in our busy lives to share a drink or a meal (while possibly discussing our tastes and our favorite recipe) is very common in every place we travel. This conversation will unveil some of the most striking moments the documentarian has lived while  - hopefully - spark a lively conversation with the audience after the talk.

Francesco Dragone is an ethnographic filmmaker who conducted extensive ethnographic research across Africa, Asia and Europe through his documentaries and films. As a holistic discipline, anthropology gave him the tools to analyze and portray the events he witnesses, combining his artistic aesthetics with a desire to capture real life moments through film. Visual anthropology allows him to unify his love for traveling and intercultural exchange with the creative endeavor of documentary filmmaking.
