Due to impending snowstorm,  Edgar Allan Poe tribute at Providence Public Library on Sunday, January 24, 2016 is being postponed to January 31.

To commemorate the 207th anniversary of Edgar Allen Poe’s
birth, event organizer Carl L. Johnson and Master of Ceremonies author/historian Christian Henry Tobler present this tribute recognizing the unique literary contributions of American author, suspense writer, critic, essayist and poet, Edgar Allan Poe (January 19, 1809—October 7, 1849).  The program will include dramatic readings of Poe’s prose and poetry, plus singing and recitations of verse composed for this occasion. The event will culminate with a recitation of Poe’s signature poem, “The Raven.”


Event Organizer: Carl L. Johnson has for three decades pursued his interests in authors of eldritch and mystery fiction who resided in Providence, RI, most extensively the personages of Edgar Allan Poe, C.M. (Clifford Martin) Eddy and H.P. (Howard Phillips) Lovecraft. Widely known as an investigator of unexplained occurrences suspected to be paranormal in nature, Carl has appeared on various paranormal-themed television shows including Ghost Hunters on SyFy Channel, The Haunted and Finding Bigfoot on Animal Planet and The Travel Channel's Most Terrifying Places in America. Carl presents an annual public honorarium to H.P. Lovecraft. He is an interpreter/tour guide and programs developer at historic Slater Mill site in Pawtucket, RI.

Master of Ceremonies: Christian Henry Tobler, an internationally noted historian who resides in Oxford, CT, will preside as Master of Ceremonies. Mr. Tobler to date has authored six scholarly and splendidly illustrated books on German Medieval Combat. He is featured narrator of several filmed documentaries on archaic weaponry and combat techniques, presents a lecture/demonstration program in the United States, Canada, England and Europe, and twice each year organizes and directs visitations to children’s hospitals.
