Norwegian By Night follows the adventures of Sheldon Horowitz, Korean war veteran, watchmaker, New Yorker, who moves to Norway to live out his “glory days” with his granddaughter.  Thrust into a foreign country, Sheldon becomes embroiled with a crime syndicate after choosing to save a young boy and mother who appear on his doorstep.  Wrapped as a thriller, Norwegian By Night drives readers to consider themes of war, memory, loss, and choice, as Sheldon and the young boy flee into the night…

Living Literature is a collective of RI-based performing artists who celebrate the written word through readers’ theater-style performances of non-dramatic literature. Since its inception in January of 1996, Living Literature has created well over 100 presentations based on poems, stories, novels, plays, essays, biographies, articles and oral histories in libraries, schools and other community venues throughout southeastern New England.  This is Living Literature’s sixth year creating programs for Reading Across Rhode Island, the signature program for the Rhode Island Center for the Book and the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities. Living Literature will present a performance of Norwegian By Night intended for audiences who have read the work and those who have not.

  • This program is a product of the partnership between the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities' EnRICHment Program and the RI Center for the Book's Reading Across Rhode Island. The Council seeds, supports, and strengthens public history, cultural heritage, civic education and community engagement by and for all Rhode Islanders.

Parking is available at the Providence Hilton Parking Garage: $3/3 hours. Bring ticket for stamping at the Library.
