Sunday, November 6 - 2:00 pm, Providence Public Library – Trustee’s Room

As part of ongoing programs and events spotlighting the life of Louisa May Alcott, Dr. Joan Glazer, Professor Emeritus, Rhode Island College will lead a discussion of Harriet Reisen's biography Louisa May Alcott: The Woman Behind Little Women.

Apple cider and Louise May Alcott’s Apple Slump Dessert will be served at the discussion!

Dr. Glazer has worked extensively with literature of the mid-18th century, most often in the history of literature for young people, but relating it to the adult literature and to the prevailing philosophies and culture of the time. This was particularly true during her year as a Fulbright Scholar in American Studies in Norway, where she taught literature to both teachers and students within the context of American culture and values.

Dr. Glazer has taught for more than 30 years at the college level, making regular presentations at professional organizations, especially for the National Council of Teachers of English, The International Reading Association, and the International Board on Books for Young People. With the latter organization she was often speaking to non-American audiences who were interested in the history and thought of Americans and looked for clear explanations and examples. She has taught poetry and short stories at Elderhostel programs in Vermont on a regular basis, working with the general public.
