Submit entries until April 13
Award Ceremony: Saturday, April 28, 2007
Providence Public Library, with sponsorship from Target (Official National Sponsor of Dia de los Ninos, Dia de los Libros 2007), presents its annual Bilingual (English/Spanish) Story Writing Contest for 6-10 year-old children as well as it Bilingual Young Authors FAMILY writing contest for 2-5 year-old children and their parents and caregivers. Local sponsors include Providence en Español Newspaper and Sodexho School Services.
Contest Guidelines for Bilingual Young Authors Contest (age 6-10)
Budding young authors are expected and encouraged to write their own books and create a drawing to complement each page. Stories must be unpublished and original; no adaptations will be accepted. Books should be at least five pages in length, but no more than ten pages total. Each page must be typewritten in English and Spanish and must include page numbers. In addition, all entries require a cover sheet which includes the title of the story, author’s name, home address, phone number, date of birth, school name and address, grade level and teacher. A total of 4 winners will be chosen by a panel of judges, with 2 winners from the 6-8 age group and 2 winners from the 9-10 age group, respectively.
Guidelines for the Bilingual Young Authors FAMILY Contest (age 2-5)
Same as above, but adults may write the text, while children must draw the
pictures or create a collage to complete the book. Get creative—make an alphabet
book, color book, counting book, shape book, opposite book, books about family,
friends, pets, favorite things, etc. Two winners will be chosen from a panel
of judges.
