01/02/09 PPL Conducts Food Drive for RI Community Food Bank
Providence Public Library (PPL) invites library patrons to help in the collection of food donations for the Rhode Island Community Food Bank. The Library is currently conducting a food collection drive, which will continue during the winter and spring months, at all PPL locations.
"During difficult times, we know that people are often willing to give of themselves to help their neighbors in need. Anyone who wishes to donate may drop needed food items off into collection bins at any PPL library during their regular visits," said Tonia Mason, Marketing Director. The food drive will continue through May. Library locations and hours...
There are some items that the Food Bank notes as most needed. These include:
- Protein: Canned Soup, Tuna, Meat, Peanut Butter, Nuts, Canned & Dried Beans
- Canned Fruits & Vegetables including Juices and Tomato Sauce
- Carbohydrates: Nutritious Breakfast Cereals, Whole Wheat Pasta, Brown Rice
- Crackers, Granola Bars and Cheese & Cracker Packages

The Food Bank asks that people making food donations take note of expiration dates. Also, while the Food Bank asks that no glass jars of baby food be given, boxed cereals and formula are needed, if they are unopened and within date code.
