Through corporate partnership with Citadel Broadcasting Company, as well as generous contributions and support from countless people throughout the state, Books Are Wings has given away more than half a million books at book parties that foster community unity and encourage family literacy.

With the mission of “putting free books in the hands of children,” Books Are Wings is a statewide public nonprofit all volunteer organization founded in 2001 to promote reading, literacy and libraries through community outreach and the distribution of books primarily to children in families of limited means who otherwise may be unable to obtain books of their own. Books Are Wings collects books, sorts them, and distributes thousands of books each year at “book parties” coordinated with libraries, child care centers, Boys and Girls Clubs, YMCAs, community centers, churches, schools, and other children and family friendly locations around Rhode Island.
