10/12/07 Providence Public Library to Hold 2007 Annual Meeting October 26

Providence Public Library will hold its 2007 Annual Meeting at 12:00 Noon on Friday, October 26 at the Central Library, 150 Empire Street, (Barnard Room, 3rd floor). Members of the public are welcome. Following the Annual Meeting of the Corporation, guest speaker Sam Coale will present “Getting a Life: Beguiled by Books,” sharing with attendees his insights on the power of the written word and the experience of reading and reviewing.

An author and frequent local book reviewer, Coale is a professor of American Literature and Culture at Wheaton College. He has authored “Paradigms of Paranoia: The Culture of Conspiracy in Contemporary American Fiction” and “Mystery of Mysteries: Cultural Differences and Designs.”

In addition to writing book reviews for The Providence Journal, Coale also writes theatre, film and book reviews and feature articles for the East Side Monthly in Providence. His work has taken him to Belarus and Brazil, as well as Romania, Poland, India, the Czech Republic, Pakistan and England. He has just returned from a lecture tour in Jordan and Lebanon.

Meeting attendees are also welcome to attend a luncheon to follow the speaker. The luncheon cost is $25 and reservations can be made by contacting Jeanne Beaulieu at 455-8101 by October 19.
