RI Family Literacy Initiative Offers Free High School Diploma Preparation Classes to Begin Sept. 11

Fall & Winter Sessions are Targeted to Adults Who Speak English as a Second Language

The Rhode Island Family Literacy Initiative (RIFLI) based at Providence Public Library is offering adults for whom English is not their native language the opportunity to register* for free Fall and Winter classes to prepare for the National External Diploma Program.  The National External Diploma Program (NEDP) provides an alternative means to achieving a high school credential.

Let’s Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War

Three Local Libraries Collaborate to Host Reading & Discussion Series this October

 Providence Public Library (PPL), East Providence Public Library (Weaver) and William Hall Public Library, Cranston, are collaborating to offer a free, five-part reading and discussion series this October called “Let’s Talk About It: Making Sense of the American Civil War.” The series has been developed by the American Library Association and the National Endowment for the Humanities with local support provided by the Rhode Island

Discovery Guides Join Staff

In March, the RI Family Literacy Initiative (RIFLI) based at PPL got word from Better World Books and the National Center for Family Literacy that the Library earned one of three national Librarians and Families awards of $10,000 to implement an innovative new program that would enable some students in the RIFLI adult ESL program to become Discover Guides in our new Chace Children's Discovery Library.
