Public Art in Providence: Four-part Series Airs on RI PBS beginning April 3

PPL WILL BE FEATURED APRIL 17 "ART IN LIBRARIES" EPISODE

A new four part series featuring readily seen, yet often overlooked, artwork on permanent display in Providence debuts Thursday, April 3 at 8 p.m. on RI PBS. Each half hour episode of ArtRI’s In Plain Sight: Art in Unexpected Places explores publicly accessible Providence sites known for something other than their art but that also offer noteworthy examples of artistic expression. Spanning three centuries, featured artworks represent various media including paint, textiles, marble, steel, wood, glass, works on paper and more.

Providence Public Library Presents Free ALICE IN WONDERLAND Film Series, Beginning March 20

In celebration of its upcoming WONDERLAND: Through the Looking Glass Gala on April 11, Providence Public Library (150 Empire Street, Providence invites the public to take in a free Alice in Wonderland Film Series, sponsored by Dimeo Construction Company. The films will be shown on consecutive Thursdays from 6 – 8 pm in the Library’s Auditorium (3rd Floor) -- March 20, March 27 and April 3.

HUMAN LIBRARY RHODE ISLAND 2014 HEADS TO BRISTOL

After last year’s successful event in Providence, the East Bay gets a chance to talk to living books

BRISTOL, RI -– An eclectic and thought-provoking collection of more than 50 “Human Books” will provide the East Bay with a unique reading experience at Roger Williams University on Sunday, March 30th. The first statewide Human Library event took place at Rochambeau Library in 2013; now a larger consortium of Rhode Island libraries and sponsoring organizations has produced another highly original and perhaps life-changing library experience for the people of Rhode Island.

In a special pre-event program leading up to Providence Public Library’s 2014 gala WONDERLAND: Through the Looking Glass on Friday, April 11, the Library and program sponsor The Providence Journal present “Lewis Carroll & Magic” with magician Christopher Morgan. This program is free and open to the public.
