Back-to-School Author Visit -- Meet RI’s Peter Mandel at Providence Public Library Saturday, September 15

In celebration of the new school year, Providence Public Library’s Chace Children’s Discovery Library (150 Empire Street, Providence) will host a special visit from popular Rhode Island author Peter Mandel from 11 am to 12 Noon on Saturday, September 15.  Peter will share his perennial favorite, Jackhammer Sam, with youngsters and then introduce his newest book, Zoo Ah-choooo.  Bring the family and join the back-to-school fun!  The program is free and open to all.  A book sale and signing will follow Peter’s program.

Peter Mandel is an adventure travel journalist and the author of eleven books for kids, including the new Jackhammer Sam (Macmillan/Roaring Brook), called “wonderful and overwhelming, rattling and mesmerizing” by Publishers Weekly, and his new Zoo Ah-Choooo (Holiday House), a PBS Reading Rainbow selection. “Lively pen-and-ink and watercolor cartoon illustrations join with the humorous text to tell the tale with panache,” says School Library Journal.

Originally from Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, Mandel currently lives in Providence with his wife, Kathy, and cats, Betty, Emily and Cecil.  He’s written essays and op-eds for Reader’s Digest, Los Angeles Times, The International Herald Tribune, and The Wall Street Journal, and his books have been translated into Japanese, German, Chinese, Italian, Dutch, Swedish and Danish.
