FIRST ANNUAL RI INDEPENDENT PUBLISHING EXPO TO BE HELD AUGUST 2 & 3 AT PROVIDENCE PUBLIC LIBRARY
The first annual Rhode Island Independent Publishing Expo (RIPExpo), a weekend-long free festival celebrating self-published comics, books and zines, will take place on Saturday August 2nd and Sunday August 3rd from 12 to 6 PM at the Providence Public Library, 150 Empire Street, Providence.
The only event of its kind in Rhode Island, RIPExpo celebrates a diverse community of underground and small press artists on both a local and international scale. Writers and artists from all over North America will join local creators to share their work and ideas in a vibrant live forum. Vendors will have a variety of books, comics, prints and affordable artwork for sale to the public.
Artists’ talks and panel discussions featuring special guests and artists from across the country will take place onsite all weekend. A full programming schedule, including film screenings, exhibitions and social events, will be announced on the website as the festival approaches.
Special guests include celebrated Providence-based artists, cartoonist Mickey Zacchilli and Mothers News editor Jacob Khepler. Out-of town featured guests include Lale Westvind (New York), Leah Wishnia (New York), Suzy X (New York) and Sophie Yanow (Montreal).
RIPExpo is free and open to the public thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Providence Public Library!
