ONLINE BUSINESS INCUBATOR (OBI) OVERVIEW
OBI is an innovative program in Rhode Island that provides owners of startups and existing businesses with interactive, online access to expert mentors, tools, and resources so they can be successful in today’s economy. The program focuses on supporting the OWNER, improving the BUSINESS, and using the INTERNET as a tool for economic growth. OBI is a 16-week internet-based incubator that will help business owners:
IDENTIFY the skills, knowledge, resources, and expertise you need from what OBI makes available to the business owner – including sales, marketing, finance, operations, and Internet;
DEFINE goals, create a work plan and find the tools needed to grow
and improve the business;
IMPLEMENT solutions through a cycle of picking a single goal, getting input from expert mentors and peers, executing new ideas, and adapting them to fit the business.
WHY SHOULD I CONSIDER OBI?
OBI is a no-cost program that will help you reach your business goals. Using the OBI program website, and your personalized Google site and program documents, you can access helpful business mentors, content, and tools for financial planning, marketing, operations, presentations and more – at any time and from anywhere you can get online. Those needing computer skills can attend Digital Literacy classes before starting the incubator. OBI is looking for highly motivated Business Owners with a desire to learn and grow. Successful graduates will be positioned to take advantage of the support of the business community and grow their business. The next 16-week OBI program begins on September 4, 2012, so enroll now!
OBI Business Owners on getting connected:
“The Online Business Incubator (OBI) provided me with the external structure, accountability, expertise and networking I needed to give my business real momentum. My mentors were especially helpful in stressing the importance of an on-line presence, so I made creating my website the first priority.” -- Gretchen Varkonyi of Dinner Dame
“The videos about business planning were very good for me and very understandable. I am using broadband and the Internet more for other very good business tools, like Goggle Apps, that I learned about during OBI. Having a Spanish-speaking mentor was also very beneficial.” -- Yasmin Rincon of Computer Center & Service
The Online Business Incubator (OBI) is program offered by Broadband Rhode Island (BBRI), which is an initiative funded by the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act (ARRA). To find out more about BBRI and the ARRA go to broadband.ri.gov and recovery.gov.
