Digital Photography Series

For the beginning to moderately experienced photographer, this series of straight forward, hands-on classes will help you with capturing, storing, sharing, and editing your digital photos. No prior experience with photography is necessary. Attendees are welcome to register for one class or multiple classes in the series.

Class I. Digital Photography Basics

  • Photography fundamentals (aperture, focal length, exposure time, file formats, etc.).
  • Outstanding photography resources on the web.
  • How to choose the best camera for your needs (DSLR vs. point & shoot camera vs. smart phone camera).

Cameras will not be provided and are not necessary; however, registrants are welcome to bring their own devices to class.

Class II. Storing and Sharing Your Photos

  • Uploading your photos from your camera to your computer.
  • Organizing your photos on your home machine and online.
  • Popular photo management sites and applications (Flickr, iPhoto, Photobucket, etc.).
  • Printing your digital photographs.

Registrants are welcome to bring photo files and devices to class.

Class III. Photo Editing and Slideshow Creation

  • Photo editing software overview.
  • Hands-on time with the Pixlr photo editing tool (
  • Adding photos to documents and emails.
  • Creating photo slideshows.

Class IV. Photography and the Web

  • Sharing photos on social media sites (Facebook, Instragram, Twitter, Tumblr).
  • Copyright considerations for images online.
  • Sites for buying and selling digital photos.

Registrants are welcome to bring photo files and devices to class.

Parking is available at the Providence Hilton Parking Garage: $3/3 hours. Bring ticket for stamping at the Library.
