Our annual Updike Award Ceremony celebrates the best in historically-informed type design by students. Join us as we crown our third prize winner and hear a lecture from an expert in the field. This year's speaker is Nina Stössinger.

Nina Stössinger is a Senior Typeface Designer at Frere-Jones Type in Brooklyn. Before focusing entirely on typeface design, she was working as an independent typographer, graphic designer, type designer, and tool developer in The Netherlands and before that, in her native Switzerland. Nina graduated in multi-media design from Burg Giebichenstein University of Art Halle/Germany, where she discovered her love for type; she went on to receive a CAS in Type Design from Zurich University of the Arts and an MA in Type and Media from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. Nina was appointed a Critic at Yale School of Art in 2016. She has spoken at numerous conferences, and her work has been exhibited internationally. Her published type designs include FF Ernestine, Sélavy, and Nordvest.

Support for this event is provided by Paperworks.
