gc 2518 Middletown Side view of Overing House, built around 1710 and extensively modified in subsequent years, this was the
summer headquarters of General Richard Prescott, commander of the British occupation forces at Newport. In June, 1777,
Prescott was captured in this house by Colonel William Barton of Warren, RI. Barton's daring raid served to raise the morale of
