gc 2873 Miscellaneous King Street and old Kent County Jail East Greenwich - built in 1889,
five years after the New Haven Rail Road built the arched bridge over King Street. There has
been a jail at about the same site since East Greenwich was founded in 1677. The original jail was
a 2-cell affair and the second was built in 1804 and served until this structure was built. Trolley
tracks are visible that handled freight between the waterfront and Main Street. Note the
wagon tracks in the dirt road. The bridge is of native granite.
