Tool used: point; most pricks are round, some are triangular, suggesting either a sail needle or a knife blade tip. There is no evidence of undercutting by a knife blade.
Design description: Face whaling scene, ship in distance at right shown from starboard side; in distance left, whale with boat on back. Foreground, whaleboat approaching a blowing whale (mouth of bowhead, body of sperm!)
