I am from Columbia, where I worked as a social psychologist. I have lived here since 2004 and have been trying to find work in my area of expertise, but it is very hard not knowing English. A few years ago I learned about the Library’s RIFLI program and have been working since then to improve my English and get experiences to be able to get a job that I know I am qualified for. I know I have much to contribute and have been fortunate through these connections to volunteer and also work as an AmeriCorps VISTA and in other jobs related to my background.
I have received so much excellent support from the Library’s RIFLI ESL teachers. I truly appreciate their professionalism. They are so prepared, always trying to know about their students’ cultures in order to help us even more to achieve our goals.
