Children's Programs

PPL’s Children’s Services Department strives to create engaging, hands-on programs that expose youth to learning opportunities on various topics including STEM, music, nature, art, and dance. Programs range in topic, length, and frequency to meet the needs of the youth and families we serve.

Registration is preferred but not required. Space is limited. Please keep an eye on our event calendar, website, and social media channels for cancellations due to weather or illness.

Programs for children ages 0-5 years old

Storytimes

April 2 - May 23 Schedule (No storytime May 16.)

Tuesdays, 9:30 am or 10:30 am -- Cradle to Crayons (1-3 yrs)

This hour-long session includes time for play and socialization as well as stories, songs, and movement.

Tuesdays, 11:30 am -- Baby Steps (0-18 mos.)

Stories, songs, and rhymes designed for non-walkers.

Thursdays, 11:00 am -- Reading & Rhyming Together (0-5 yrs) (We'll start off in the Library!)

This program is currently held at the library at 150 Empire Street, Providence. The Library is closed to the public at this time so library staff are at the door to let participants in from 10:45 - 11:05. Please be on time.

We will read, sing, and dance together!

Programs for children ages 6-12 years old

Young Creators Series

These four-part program series are geared toward youth ages 6-12 years old and focus on various topics including: Creative movement, STEM, music, and art. Programming runs in the fall and again in the spring on Saturday mornings. All materials required for participation will be provided.

STEM Mentoring RI

This six week program consists of fun, hands-on activities, group projects, and multimedia connections that engage youth in a variety of STEM topics, with a particular focus on conservation. Youth ages 6-10 are paired with a middle or high school mentor throughout the duration of the program. Through weekly STEM enrichment activities, youth are exposed to inspiring scientists, engineers, and conservationists, who represent a variety of careers and education pathways. Programming runs four times per year.
